The Eagles earn their 26th NCAA bid.
STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern men's golf team will be playing at the Tallahassee Regional for the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, it was announced on The Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon.
The Regional is scheduled for May 17-19 at Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Florida, where the Eagles will compete against 13 other teams and five individuals. The Tallahassee Regional is one of six in the country. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals, which will be played May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Playing in the Tallahassee Regional field along with Georgia Southern are Davidson, Florida A&M, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas, Liberty, LIU, LSU, Ohio State, Southern California and TCU.
"We're very happy with the selection," said Georgia Southern coach Carter Collins. "It's good to be having the shortest drive of the six, and we know a lot about the golf course. It's a very challenging course. We just got done playing at Mystic Creek for the Sun Belt Conference Championship, so I feel like we're prepared for it. Now, it's just a matter of going to work."
Champions of the Sun Belt Conference and ranked 34th in the country (Golfstat), the Eagles are making their 26th appearance in the NCAA Championships, the fourth under Collins and the ninth in Collins' 14-year tenure on the coaching staff. Georgia Southern earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship in 2019 and finished fourth at the Stanford Regional to advance to the NCAA Finals at The Blessings Club in Arkansas. Steven Fisk went on to finish second there, the best finish for an Eagle in program history.
Three of the five Eagles who played in the lineup in those tournaments - Brett Barron, Ben Carr and Jake Maples - are expected to be in the lineup in Tallahassee. Maples finished ninth in the Stanford Regional, Carr tied for 33rd and Barron tied for 38th.
