STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern rifle team returns to the range Saturday to participate in the NCAA Qualifier at the Shooting Sports Education Center. Sighters and prep start at 9:15 a.m. with the Eagle shooting with 18th-ranked UAB. Due to COVID restrictions, the event is closed to the general public.
The event is a shoulder-to-shoulder match with the top scores from around the country taken to determine NCAA qualifiers. The shooters from the top eight teams in the country automatically head to Columbus, Ohio, for the Big Dance, and then the top four scores from each discipline also are awarded a bid. In 2019,
Rosemary Kramer shot a 596 at this event to grab an individual spot at the NCAA Championship, becoming the first Eagle to represent GS at the event.
Both squads may have up to five shooters participating in both the USA Shooting 60-shot 3x20 small bore and 60-shot air rifle disciplines.Â
Live shots will be available thru SIUS with a live targets available on
Twitch.
The match is the last event before Georgia Southern travels to Lexington, Virginia, for the SoCon Championships March 5 and 6 at VMI.
