Simone James' 18 points in her hometown leads GS to the win in California
SAN DIEGO - Sophomore Simone James scored a career high-tying 18 points in her hometown to lead Georgia Southern women's basketball to a 100-60 victory over San Diego Christian on Monday evening at the Kroc Center in San Diego.
Georgia Southern improved to 4-1 overall and went 1-1 on its first trip to California as a program. San Diego Christian, an NAIA school, played the game as an exhibition against the Eagles.
San Diego Christian led by two, 10-8, with 2:14 left in the first quarter, but the Eagles turned up the defense to embark on a 19-0 run over the next five and a half minutes to build a 27-10 lead. Georgia Southern led at the break, 51-25, then pulled away in the second half even further. Daeja Holmes banked in a runner in the lane for the 100-point mark, just the second time the Eagles have reached the century mark in a regular season contest in the last five seasons.
Three Eagles reached double figures on the night, led by James' 18 points. Rachel Johnson and Constance Thomas added 11 points. San Diego Christian was led by Isabel Feller's 12 points.
Eagle of the Game
James' 18 points tied her career high, set last season against Troy on January 15th. She hit 7-of-11 shots from the floor and made all four of her free throws, adding three rebounds.
Stats of the Game
The Eagles forced 27 turnovers by the Hawks and scored 36 points off of those turnovers. Georgia Southern's 23 steals were the most since collecting 25 steals against Coastal Georgia on December 12.

Head Coach Anita Howard on the win over San Diego Christian
"I thought our ladies came out and played really aggressive for it to be 11 pm our time. I thought we were a little bit sleepy to start the game, but then we picked it up. A lot of different players played for us tonight, and we saw a lot of good things. It was a good bounce-back win after our loss to San Diego State."
