Get to Know: Ashley Judson
12/16/2020 10:01:00 AM | Women's Rifle
Name: Ashley Judson
Hometown: Acworth, GA
Major/minor: Philosophy - Law, minoring in English
I began shooting rifle: when I was a freshman in high school. In fact, it was my first time picking up a gun ever.
Favorite - Air Rifle or Smallbore: I love air rifle! Standing is my jam
My favorite family vacation spot is: Gatlinburg, Tennessee. My family rents out a cabin there and we see bears pretty much every day in our backyard.
When I was little, I wanted to be: a veterinarian. Then I realized I would have to do a lot of math so my career choice quickly changed after that revelation.
If I could choose to do anything for a day, it would be: to go scuba diving in a coral reef. I have been snorkeling before and loved it, being able to breathe underwater is such a cool idea for me.
If I had to be an NCAA athlete in another sport, I would: either want to be a swimmer or a volleyball player. Up until high school, I was on the swim team, and that's when I switched to rifle. I've always been in love with volleyball's coordination and teamwork and even though I've never done it aside from being goofy with friends. I would love to try some day.
Between a bike, a horse, and a car, I'd: definitely go for the horse. I used to ride when I was little and I loved them. Plus, if you see someone riding a bike or driving a car on the road it's not really that big of a deal. But if you saw me on a horse running through the street that would definitely be more interesting.
If money was no object, what would you do all day? I would either draw, play my violin, or write some sort of fantasy/nonfiction novel. On the outside I'm an athlete, but I love doing artsy things.
What's your hidden talent? I can identify any Pokemon and tell you a good amount of information on each one, some more than others. There are 932 Pokemon now, so I consider this a talent haha.
My favorite zoo animal is: an otter!
What's the tallest building you've been to the top in? I have been to is the Willis Tower in Chicago. On the 103rd floor there is a Skydeck - it's a glass floor you can walk on and it's completely suspended over the city. Heights freak some people out, but I love them.
My favorite holiday is: definitely Christmas. I get to be home with family and it's the perfect weather to curl up in a blanket with a book next to a fireplace. A bit cliche, but I love it.
My favorite rifle road trip so far: has to be when we went to Boston last year against MIT. It was my first time visiting Boston and though I'm not much of a fan of the cold, I fell in love with the city.
I last read: Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare. The Mortal Instruments is my favorite book series and I own 11 of the books that are part of the series.
My first celebrity crush was: Daniel Radcliffe. I LOVED Harry Potter when I was a kid, owned all the books and movies and had posters all over my room. I couldn't wait until I turned 11 so I could get my letter of acceptance from Hogwarts. It never came...
My favorite place on campus has to be: Lake Ruby and Lake Wells. I love to just sit on the bench for a little bit and disconnect from the world - no assignments, no phone, just watchin the geese and turtles in peace.
My favorite Coach Worman saying is: "It's a sign from the universe!" Looking at life in an optimistic way, even when life is hard in the moment and viewing that as a gift, has really helped turn my perspective around with more positivity. Thinking that God puts things in my life for a reason helps me get back on my feet when I am knocked down.
After I graduate Georgia Southern, I want to: go to law school. My current goal is to become a Title IX prosecutor for those that do not feel as though they have a voice because I know I can be their voice. I also want to publish a book I have been writing for a while now that is at 50,000 words (but still has plenty more work to be done).
2020 has taught me: patience and healing. This year has forced me to come to terms with who I really am, and honestly I didn't like some of what I found. But now that I've found it, I have the power to change it. If I never found the things I didn't like about me, then I never would have been able to change them and improve for the better. I've found a lot of what has been holding me back, both as an athlete and as a person - and nothing can stop me now!
