The Georgia Southern men's golf program will host the Bash in the Boro, a seven-team tournament, Oct. 19-20, at Georgia Southern University Course in Statesboro.
Augusta, Appalachian State, Francis Marion, Troy, Western Kentucky and Wofford are slated to compete in the event along with the Eagles. The practice round will be Oct. 18, and the teams will play 36 holes Oct. 19, and 18 holes Oct. 20. Six student-athletes will compete in the lineup for each team, and the lowest four scores from each round will count in the team score.
Teams will be grouped in two groups of three in order to reduce contact tracing.
Spectators are allowed at the event, and fans are asked to wear face coverings indoors and practice social distancing on the course.
The Georgia Southern University Golf Course at University Park is an 18-hole championship course opened in October 2013. The Eagle men's golf program has hosted the Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate at the course annually since 2017, and the women's program hosted The Strutter there in 2019 and is scheduled to host the event again next February.
Georgia Southern has finished in the top-3 at its last two events, dating back to the 2019-20 season, and is coming off a second-place outing at the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate Sept. 30.
Mason Williams placed second (-6), the fifth top-10 finish of his collegiate career, and Ben Carr (E) tied for 11th. Colin Bowles (-2) tied for sixth, and Brett Barron (+3) tied for 24th.
Barron and Jake Maples are playing a fifth season after the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility to all spring sport student-athletes because of COVID-19. Both played in the first two tournaments and are slated to be in the lineup this week.
Barron makes his 34th career start this week and has been in the lineup in the last 15 tournaments, and Carr makes his 21st start in the lineup for the Eagles. Maples makes his 14th career start in the lineup, and Colin Bowles will be in the lineup for the 11th time in his career. Mason Williams makes his 16th career start, and Luke Dasher will make his debut in the lineup.
This will be the final event of the fall for Georgia Southern.The Eagles are scheduled to open the spring back in Statesboro at the GS Golf Course for the GS Individual Collegiate Feb. 1-2.
