Men's Tennis Opens 2020 Season At Tech

Doubleheader scheduled for 11AM and 4PM
STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern men's tennis team opens the 2020 spring schedule Sunday with a doubleheader against Georgia Tech at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
The first match is set for 11:00 a.m. with the second scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
Series history:
The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series 16-9 having won 16 straight after the Eagles took the first nine. The last victory for Georgia Southern against Tech was a 9-0 win in 1984. The most recent meeting was in 2015 where Tech took the victory 6-1.
Georgia Southern Outlook:
The Eagles went 15-11, 2-5 SBC in 2019 with first round loss to Coastal Carolina in the conference tournament. During the season, the team strung together five-game winning streaks on two occasions and produced the Sun Belt Freshman of the year in Antonio Muniz. The 2020 squad will be led by three seniors and welcome five newcomers. Senior Diego Finkelstein enters the season with 61 career singles wins and is currently seventh all-time in the GS record books.
About Georgia Tech:
The Yellowjackets went 11-11, 6-6 ACC last season and fell in the first round of the ACC Tournament to Louisville. Tech senior Carlos Divar returns after earning All-ACC First Team honors in 2019 where he went 14-7 in singles play and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship.
What Eagles head coach Sander Koning had to say:
"We have been working hard since we got back to campus. The guys have been engaged and are eager to start the season. The seniors have stepped up their leadership within the team and now it will come down to execution of everything we've worked on."
Following the trip to Atlanta, the team heads south to Florida for matches with Florida Gulf Coast and Miami on Jan. 17 and Jan. 19 respectively.
