Eagles gear up for Saturday's first scrimmage
STATESBORO – It was another sweltering morning as the heat index reached 105 degrees Friday morning at Georgia Southern's seventh preseason football practice. The team battled through the heat in shells and helmets at Beautiful Eagle Creek in preparation for Saturday' first full scrimmage.
The big news of the day came as athletic director Tom Kleinlein released a statement that quarterback Shai Werts is out of the student-athlete code of conduct protocol after his charge was dismissed last night in South Carolina. No further discipline will be administered and the junior is now cleared for the opener just 22 days away.
In today's coaching interview, GSEagles.com caught up with outside linebackers coach Jeremy Rowell to get his thoughts on his group early in camp.
Practice will continue on Saturday with the first scrimmage at Paulson Stadium. Fans are welcome to come watch the action, which is scheduled to last a little over 90 minutes with the Little Eagles Camp after.
