STATESBORO - Two members of the Georgia Southern women's track and field team have the opportunity to represent their countries in international competitions this Summer, gaining valuable experience heading into the 2019-20 season. Scovia Ayikoru ran for her native country of Uganda at the IAAF World Relays while Izlyn Zaini is in contention to represent Singapore in the World University Games.

While the Eagles were competing at the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, freshman Scovia Ayikoru was representing her native country of Uganda at the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama, Japan. Ayikoru ran in the 4x400 Meter relay with teammates Emilly Nanziri, Leni Shida and Stella Wonruku. The Ugandan team placed seventh in the first heat on May 11th as Ayikoru ran the third leg of the relay in a time of 54.50 - a time faster than the Eagles' school record of 54.84, set by Rashedah Arnold in 2017.

Zaini, meanwhile, is looking to earn a spot on the Singapore team that will journey to Napoli, Italy, in the 2019 World University Games from July 3-14. The junior recently completed her debut season for the Eagles and hopes to qualify for her national team in the 100 Hurdles as she already owns her country's fastest time in the discipline, thanks to her performances this Spring for Georgia Southern.
