The Eagles earn their 25th NCAA bid.
STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern men's golf team has been selected for an at-large bid to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, it was announced on The Golf Channel Wednesday night.
The Eagles will play in the Stanford Regional May 13-15, where they will compete against 12 other teams and 10 individuals at Stanford Golf Course. The Stanford Regional is one of six in the country. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals, which will be played May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Playing in the Stanford Regional field along with Georgia Southern are: Arizona State, Stanford, LSU, NC State, North Carolina, South Florida, Kansas, Virginia, Ole Miss, UNCG, Augusta and Denver.
The Eagles make their 25th appearance in the NCAA Championships, the third under head coach Carter Collins and the eighth in Collins' 12-year tenure on the coaching staff.
Georgia Southern has won three events this season and was atop the leaderboard after the stroke-play portion of the Sun Belt Championship last Tuesday after firing a school record 263 in the final round, a total that included a combined 22 birdies on the back nine.
"I couldn't be more proud of this team for accomplishing a big goal of ours," said Collins. "We have bigger goals ahead of us, and we can't wait to GATA on the west coast. Go Eagles!"
