Coming off their third team title of the season, the Eagles travel to the Tar Heel Intercollegiate this weekend. It's the Eagles' first appearance in the event, which began in the 2012-13 season.
The Eagles have finished in the top-6 in 17 of their last 23 tournaments, dating back to the 2016-17 campaign. GS has won three tournaments this season and finished in the top-5 five times.
Georgia Southern shot a tournament-tying, single-round 268 in the final round of the 40th Schenkel Invitational last Sunday at Forest Heights Country Club to claim the team title. The team win is the second all-time at the Schenkel Invitational, joining the 2014 team in the record books as champions of the event. It's also the fifth top-three finish in past six years for the Eagles, who have hosted the tournament since 1971.
The Eagles' 268 tied the Schenkel Invitational record for lowest round, equaling Alabama's 2012 mark shot in the tournament's first round.
Brett Barron posted seven birdies en route to a 65 on Sunday, the second-lowest round in his collegiate career. His third-place finish tied his career best that he set at the 2017 GS Individual, and the junior has finished in the top-10 in each of his last two events.
Jake Maples shot a 69 Sunday, while Wilson Andress and Mason Williams each carded an even-par 72.
Andress and Williams will be in the lineup for the seventh time this season, while Barron and Maples each make their third start of the year. Avery Price will be in the lineup for the sixth time this season.
The Eagles are paired with Mississippi State and Michigan State for Saturday's first two rounds and will tee off holes 4-6 in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Following the event, GS has just one regular-season tournament left - a trip to Nashville, Tenn., for the Mason Rudolph Invitational, hosted by Vanderbilt April 5-7.
