Barron Leads Men’s Golf in Second Round of White Sands Invitational

The Eagles tee off at 8 a.m. ET in Sunday’s final round.
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Brett Barron carded a 67 and moved into a tie for 13th to lead the Georgia Southern men's golf team in the second round of the White Sands Invitational at the Ocean Club Golf Course Saturday.
Barron bogeyed his first hole of the day, the 433-yard, par-4 9th, and was lights out after that. He made four birdies on the back nine to shoot a 32 and added birdies at 2 and 6, both par 5s, on his way to the Eagles' best round of the tournament.
Luukas Alakulppi and Colin Bowles, who are playing as individuals this week, put together solid second rounds today. Alakulppi birdied four in a row and posted six on the day on his way to a 69. Bowles was a par machine, making 16 on the day, and added a birdie on 11 en route to carding a 72.
Georgia Southern (+4) fell into 12th place in the team standings in a field that contains five teams ranked in the top-50 in the country, according to Golfstat. The Eagles are five back of Northern Illinois and nine strokes away from eighth-place Wisconsin (-5).
Tournament host and No. 39 Houston (-19) shoot 281 today to take a six-stroke lead over Florida State (-13). No. 1 Wake Forest (-12) is third. Georgia Southern stumbled on the 456-yard, par-4 4th hole today and combined to play it 10-over.
