Georgia Southern hosts VMI Saturday at SSEC
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern rifle team returns home on Saturday, hosting the VMI co-ed and VMI women in a tri-match. The action begins at 8 a.m at the Shooting Sports Education Center on campus and admission is free.
Each squad will have five shooters participating in both the USA Shooting 60-shot 3x20 small bore and 60-shot air rifle disciplines. The top four scores from both disciplines are used to determine the scores.
At "halftime" of the match (between smallbore and air rifle), Georgia Southern will honor redshirt senior Lydia Odlin for Senior Day. Odlin will be graduating in December and this will be her final home match. Odlin came to Statesboro to join the rifle program all the way from Scarborough, Maine, and has been an anchor in the lineup for the past four years, helping the Eagles claim two Southern Conference air rifle titles. She was a second-team All-SoCon selection in air rifle as a sophomore and will finish her career with the fifth-highest career small bore average in program history, the third-highest air rifle average and the third-highest aggregate average. A two-time C.R.C.A. Scholastic All-American, she will be graduating in December with a degree in biology and her final competition while in college will be at the Olympic Trials in Colorado Springs one week beforehand. After graduation, she will be moving down to Pensacola, Florida, where she will continue shooting while she also applies for Physician Assistant School in April.
VMI is ranked 21st in the CRCA Top 25, averaging 4,507 aggregate per match. Georgia Southern is 25th at a 4,459 average and the VMI women are 26th at 4,408.
