Interim role removed from title
STATESBORO, Ga. – Josh Moffet has been elevated to head coach of the Georgia Southern women's soccer program, as announced Thursday by the department. He becomes the fifth full-time coach for the Eagles since the program's inception in 1993.
Moffet, who has been coaching as the interim head coach since August, has led the Eagles to six wins this year, including one over in-state rival Georgia State, with two more regular season games left to play and a spot in the Sun Belt Tournament within reach.
"We're excited to remove the interim title and make Josh our full-time head coach," said Larry Mays, senior associate director of athletics. "I've been able to watch what he's done under less-than-ideal circumstances and have been really impressed with the results. When I say results, I mean more that what's seen on the pitch; this team has bought into his vision for the total program and I'm excited to see what the future holds for them."
Moffet was hired as the assistant coach for the team in May, coming to Statesboro from Oak City United based out of Raleigh, North Carolina, where he served as head coach. He was elevated to the interim head coach when then-head coach Brian Dunleavy departed just prior to the start of the season.
Prior to coaching with Oak City United, Moffet served as the assistant coach and head of recruitment for men's and women's soccer at Shaw University starting in 2017. While at Shaw University, Moffet pursued a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Lecturing in Education and graduated in May 2019.
In fall 2016, Moffet became an assistant coach of the men's soccer team at Emmanuel College. He helped lead the team to a NCCAA Regional Championship and to the NCCAA Finals during the 2016 season.
In spring 2016, Moffet became the assistant coach for the boys' varsity team at Habersham Central High School in Clarkesville, Georgia. During that time, he also served as head coach for the U12 Academy and U19 Classic 2 programs at Rapids FC.
Moffet moved to Cleveland, Georgia, to attend Truett McConnell University in 2011 after playing soccer professionally in the second division for Morecambe Football Club in England. Moffet attended Lancaster and Morecambe College in Lancaster, England.
