Men’s Golf Team Adds Colin Bowles

The mid-year transfer won the Georgia State Am in 2016.

STATESBORO – Georgia Southern men's golf coach Carter Collins announced today that Colin Bowles (Albany, Ga./Terrell Academy) has joined the 2018-19 Eagle roster.

Bowles, who is eligible to compete this spring, transferred from Ohio State, where he spent the fall semester. The freshman played in three events and posted a 76.56 scoring average. His best finish was a 28th-place outing after shooting 73-76-73=222 (+6) in the Gordin Classic.

"Colin is a talented golfer, an excellent student and an even better person, and he has a tremendous work ethic to tie it all together," said Collins. "We started recruiting Colin in 2015 and got to know him and his family very well throughout the recruiting process, and we are extremely excited to add him to our program. He has tremendous experience playing at the highest level of junior golf, and he will be a good contributor to the team. We expect him to hit the ground running and help us pursue our lofty goals."

Bowles grew up in West Virginia before his family moved to Albany, Ga. He won the Georgia State Amateur in 2016, becoming the youngest player to win the event since Bobby Jones in 1916. Bowles was the top ranked player in Georgia in the 2018 class and No. 33 nationally, according to Junior Golf Scoreboard.

He advanced to match play at the 2017 US Junior Amateur and qualified for the 2014 US Junior Amateur at the age of 14. Bowles led Terrell Academy to the 2017 Class AA State Title and claimed the state individual championship, and he owns the course record at Clearfork Valley Golf Course in West Virginia with a 56 (-15).

The Eagle men's golf team returns to action Feb. 3-4 in the GS Individual Collegiate at the Georgia Southern University Course.
