Women’s Rifle Program has Their Sights Set on the Olympic Training Center

STATESBORO, GA - While the women's rifle program may be relatively new to Georgia Southern University, they are already a force to be reckoned with.
One of just nine all-female teams nationwide, Eagle Rifle competes in small bore and air rifle in a coed competition format. In 2016, the team won third place in the Southern Conference (SoCon) Air Rifle Championships, and in 2017, they went back to claim first place. Last season, Rosemary Kramer won second place in individual air rifle in the Championships and earned First Team All-SoCon honors and the Air Rifle Athlete of the Year award. Meanwhile, Lydia Odlin and Courtney Weekley were honored with being named Second Team All-SoCon.
The 2017-18 SoCon Championship Tournament was a tremendous validation of the hard work the team has been doing. They performed exceptionally well under pressure, and over the extended period of time of a full year season. As a team, the women agreed that the SoCon Championships wasn't an end to the season, rather a springboard into what they could accomplish in their 2018-19 season.
The team's goal is to travel to Colorado Springs this fall for both an NCAA head-to-head competition with the Air Force Academy, Texas Christian University and Ohio State and to compete in Winter Air Gun. More importantly, this match is also a National Team Selection match held at the Olympic Training Center.
Head coach Sandra Worman is confident in the team's performance, "Our women's rifle team is consistently exceeding expectations and surpassing both personal and school records. It's time to take the next step in our journey. We have set our sights high. Our team has put in the hard work of physical training, shooting practice and mental management to compete at this level – and they are ready. But we need your help to get there."
The team has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help raise money for their 'March to the Mountains' in an effort to raise enough funds to cover travel, accommodations and entry fees for each team member. With a goal of $15,900, the giving site is located at Give.GSEagles.com/Rifle and will run until Friday, October 14, 2018.
