Duo joins Gray in making up signing class of 2018
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern head rifle coach Sandra Worman announced Thursday the signing of two student-athletes who round out the signing class of 2018. Caroline Brakeville and Emily Christopoul both signed NLIs to compete for the Eagles starting this fall and join Rachel Gray, who signed earlier this year.
Brakeville, who hails from Shreveport, Louisiana, attended Captain Shreve High School and competed in soccer and rifle. She competed in the 2016 National 4-H Smallbore Rifle Championships, placing third in the high overall individual and first in the high overall team. She also competed in the 2016 National 4-H Smallbore Rifle NRA Silhouette, placing third in the individual and first in the team. Brakeville also competed in the 2016 National 4-H Smallbore Rifle CMP Sporter, taking sixth in the individual and second in the team and competed in the 2016 National 4-H Smallbore Rifle NRA 3-Position Team, finishing fourth. She placed third in the 2017 National 4-H Air Rifle 3-Position Individual, fourth in the 4-H Air Rifle Standing Individual and fifth in the Air Rifle High Overall Individual. Brakeville took first place in the Louisiana State CMP 3 Position Air Rifle Championship and first in the Louisiana State 3 Position Air Rifle Junior Olympic Championship.
"Caroline is an excellent addition to the team and we're excited to get her on campus," Worman said. "She has a diverse background in sports and her success in multiple types of competition shooting complements our precision program. Caroline's path to Georgia Southern was largely through her marksmanship accomplishments with 4-H. A testament to her moxie and initiative with a Number 2 pencil, she is also the recipient of the coveted Civilian Marksmanship Program scholarship award."
Christopoul, from Boca Raton, Florida, attended Boca Raton Community High School where she was a member of the High School Varsity - NJROTC. She was the Precision Marksmanship Team Commander from 2016-2018 and placed second in the state in 2017. Christopoul also earned the Marksmanship Award in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 and was the first Sharp Shooter and Expert Shooter Award in the schools history. She earned CMP Gold in 2016, 2017 and 2018. She took first place at the Florida State Championship in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and first place at Navy Nationals 2015. She also took third place at Navy Nationals in 2016 and second place in 2017.
"I am very pleased to have Emily join our team," Worman said. "Her qualifications are top notch, as are her leadership skills, work ethic and competitive precision rifle experience. As an Ensign officer in her NJROTC unit, she brings both the drive and determination for success."
The Eagle rifle squad will open its 2018-19 campaign on Sept. 30 with a match in Dahlonega, Georgia, against North Georgia and Morehead State and will host the 2019 Southern Conference Championships March 2 and 3 at the Shooting Sports Education Center in Statesboro.
