Volleyball Recruiting Class Announced By Dustin Wood

Strong class to join team in the fall

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern head volleyball coach Dustin Wood announced Monday the addition of four newcomers who will join the program in the fall. The four joining the program are: Camila Gòmez (Santiago, Chile), Madison Brown (Lake City, Ill.), Nicoleta Meyer (Morris, Ill.) and Delaney DeCinces (Newport Beach, Calif.).

"We are very pleased as a program about rounding out this 2018 recruiting class. My staff did a great job finishing out this class with some difference makers," Wood said. "We are bringing in some talent that will help us right away and this group will raise the level in our gym tremendously. I am excited to see what these kids can accomplish."

Wood on Gòmez: "We are very excited to have Camila join our family. She comes to us with lots of experience. She will not be your typical freshman. She has spent time with the Chilean National Team and U23 Team. She has been playing against the top players in South America in qualification. Georgia Southern was the perfect fit for her and she will ready when she gets here in June. She does everything well, which is important as an outside hitter in our system. She has great ball control, defense and can score on the pin. She is a tenacious competitor, which will help our team compete night in and out."

Wood on Brown: "Madison has really developed into the setter we need her to be next year. She is running a very good offense right now in her club and we saw her a few times this year out recruiting and she is only getting better and better each week. She directs and has control of the offense and she plays great defense. She is working hard to be ready when she gets here so she can hit the ground running. She know how to win and has proven that through the years. She will come in and compete for a starting job and playing time."

Nicoleta Meyer, 5-8, Setter, Morris, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy/Uno Volleyball Club

She will learn the ins and outs of our offense and I know she will develop the understanding of our system with time. She comes from a solid club background. Her family has instilled the values that we look for in a player and her dad was a former student-athlete. She is hardworking and will get better as she goes through our program."

Delaney DeCinces, 5-11, Setter, Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor/Saddleback Valley

Wood on DeCinces: "Delaney and Georgia Southern fit perfectly together. Delaney allows us to have more options in what type of system we can run. She comes from a great family and club and knows how to win. She will be ready to hit the ground running also with our offense. She makes great decisions and knows how to direct an offense. I am very impressed with her development as a setter and her work ethic. She understands the game and will continue to get better. So excited to see where she will be when she comes in June. She will come in and compete for a starting job and playing time."
