UTA Outlasts Volleyball 3-2

The Eagles host a pair of Sun Belt matches Friday and Saturday.

STATESBORO – Kylie Jedlicka collected 22 kills and 11 digs to lead UTA to a 3-2 comeback volleyball victory over Georgia Southern in Sun Belt action Sunday afternoon in Hanner Fieldhouse.

Eagle of the Match
Lauren Reichard tallied 15 kills and four blocks while hitting .448 for Georgia Southern (7-12, 2-3).

Key moments
After a kill by Carly Turner trimmed UTA's lead to 8-7 in the fifth set, the Mavericks  (10-7, 4-3) scored the next five points, with two kills by Jedlicka, to open an insurmountable 13-7 advantage.

The Mavs trailed 2-1 in the match and 21-20 in the fourth set, but Brooke Townsend's two kills helped UTA cap the frame with a 5-1 run and force a fifth set.

Quotables from coach Dustin Wood
"We had some opportunities in the fourth and fifth sets where we just didn't execute and capitalize on them. They just found a way to win, and we didn't. I thought we passed pretty well, we just didn't execute and there were some unlucky breaks we got. There were some balls that bounced off them and back into our own court, but that's the way it goes sometimes. We had two chances, and we didn't get it done today."

"We have to come out and play better. I thought Jos (Morrow), Carly (Turner) and Lauren (Reichard) led our team well today, but it's a team game and we need everybody to play well and then the results will come. We'll take a look at it on film and move forward and get ready for a big weekend."

Next Up
The Eagles play host to Troy (Friday) and South Alabama (Saturday) in a pair of Sun Belt matches this week. Both contests are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. starts in Hanner Fieldhouse.
