A weekly series of blogs from the volleyball team
This is a weekly series of blogs from the 2017 women's volleyball team. The third edition comes from senior Cathrine Murray.
This is your fourth year as a member of the Georgia Southern women's volleyball team. You came across the country from Southern California to play here in Statesboro. What kind of advice would you give to players that are considering moving away from home and how to make the most out of their student-athlete experience?
"I can't believe this is my fourth year in Statesboro; the past three years have flown by way quicker than I expected. For players considering moving away from home, do it. Step outside of your comfort zone. I promise that you won't regret it. Even if you end up not liking the school you chose and you decide to transfer, there is so much you can learn from every situation, even the worst ones. I think going far away from home and especially leaving California has truly been the greatest decision I've made so far. I wanted to be far enough from home that I couldn't drive back on the weekends, which was definitely scary at first but now with technology, the people who are important to me are really only a call or face time away.
My last piece of advice is to jump in and fully commit to your plan. I urge you to consider schools outside the state you grew up in, preferably even outside the region, and immerse yourself in new experiences (Yes, leave the South! There is so much more out there!)."
The Eagles host the GATA Challenge this weekend. GS takes on Savannah State Friday at noon and Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. The Eagles take on Savannah State again Saturday at noon.
