
Track and Field Inks Five Recruits

Coach Kelly Cater signs five new Eagles to the 2017-18 roster
STATESBORO, Ga. – On Wednesday afternoon, head coach Kelly Carter announced the signing of five new Eagles to the Track and Field team. These five additions are all from the state of Georgia and are ready to make an impact at Georgia Southern.
Chala Carey
100m – 11.87
200m – 24.35
Long Jump – 18-6.5
Chala Carey attended Camden County High School, in Kingsland, Georgia, before signing with the Eagles this week. Carey had success in multiple events in high school, but posted personal best times of 11.87 in the 100 meter, 24.35 in the 200 meter, and a 18-6.5 Long Jump. On April 19th Carey won the GHSA Region 1-AAAAAAA 100 meter event, as well as the 200 meter event. She also collected a victory on the same day in the Long Jump posting a distance of 17-10.5.
Savyon Toombs
100m – 12.01
200m – 23.71
400m – 55.05
Savyon Toombs attended Lowndes High School, in Valdosta, Georgia, before signing with the Eagles this spring. Toombs ran multiple events in high school, posting career times of 12.01 in the 100 meter, 23.71 in the 200 meter, and 55.05 in the 400 meter. In high school Toombs collected a GA 6A Region 1 championship for the 400 meter event as well as the 200 meter event. During her senior year she ran in the USATF Galleria Games placing 12th in the 200 meter and 6th in the 400 meter.
Tristan Herndon
Discus – 139-1.5
Shot Put – 37-5.5
Tristan Herndon attended Jeff Davis High School, in Hazlehurst, Georgia, before signing with the Blue and White this spring. Herndon competed in multiple field events in high school, posting a 139-1.5 toss in the Discus event and a 37-5.5 toss in the Shot Put event. During her Outdoor senior season, Herndon took first in the GHSA Region 2-AA Discus event, with a throw of 137' 9. She also ran away with first place at the Community Bank of Fitzgerald Thursday Night Showcase on March 30th, where she won both the Shot Put event, and the Discus event by almost 30 feet.
Sabrina Richman
400m – 56.54
Sabrina Richman attended South Atlanta High School, in Atlanta, Georgia, prior to signing with the Eagles this spring. Richman competed in multiple events and set personal records in six events during her 2017 indoor season. In the 400 meter event, Richman posted a 56.54 time setting a personal record for the event. On December 30th, Richman placed 6th in the Hoover Alumni Sprint Invitational.
Kamare Ways
300mH - 44.73
400mH - 103.22
Kamare Ways attended Northeastern Macon High School, in Macon, Georgia, prior to signing with the Eagles this spring. Ways competed in the 300 and 400 meter hurdles in high school, posting a 44.73 time in the 300mH and a 103.22, 400mH time. The Macon native, joins a signing class of four others bring the Eagles total to five for the spring.
