Georgia Southern Football Signs Eight During Early Signing Period

Staff turns sights to February signing period
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern football program announced Friday a signing class composed of eight student-athletes in the new December signing period. Head coach Chad Lunsford and his staff will now set their sights on rounding out the class during February's signing period.
"We wanted to make sure we took our time in getting our coordinators hired and getting the right coaches in place for our current team so we went a little slow and were very thorough in our evaluations during this mid-year signing period," Lunsford said. "Our new coordinators had a chance to evaluate all of the players joining us and have signed off on these players, which was important to me. It's good that we're all on the same page already.
"These guys that we signed are great fits for us on both offense and defense. We didn't want to sign a big class mid-year because we wanted to make sure we did our due diligence on them academically, socially and athletically. We've done that with these guys and I'm looking to finishing off this class in February."
The Eagles added seven student student-athletes from the high school ranks along with a JUCO player who will bolster the 2018 football roster.
GS welcomed five players from the state of Georgia, along with one apiece from Florida, South Carolina and Mississippi.
The Eagles added five defensive players - four safeties and an inside linebacker - and four offensive players - a quarterback, a wide receiver and an offensive lineman - in the period.
GS will open the 2018 football season on Sept. 1 at home against Presbyterian. Ticket renewals begin on Jan. 3.
