Track and field closes out weekend in Auburn

AUBURN, Ala.- At the War Eagle Invitational this weekend, the Georgia Southern track and field's distance runners exceled in Auburn. Once again, Rebecca Parker, who set the new school record in the 3000m steeplechase earlier this year, placed in the top 10, this time taking eighth.
In the 5000m, three Eagles place among the top 10. On top of placing in the 3000m steeple, Parker took fifth place with a time of 18:53. Ashton Lord took bronze with a career-best 18:42.41 time and Erin Mullican came in tenth in the same event.
The 800m duo, Bailey Willett and Jillian Sloane, came in ninth and 11th respectively, with Willett clocking in at 5:15.51. Freshman Desiree Blunt ran the 200m in 24.7 seconds to place in 20th out of over 55 participants. In the 400m hurdles event, Mecca Day finished in 14th with a time of 1:05.33 which just narrowly misses a new career-best.
Tatiyanna Rayford set a new career best in the 100m hurdle, coming in at 14.49 seconds which placed her in 19th. In addition, Breanna Thorton set a personal record in the 400m with her 58.38 second finish.
Throwing wise, Kelsey Arnold place 12th in the hammer throw while Jamelia Owens took ninth in the shot put. Alexis Gant threw for 39.92m in the discus throw which placed her in 14th. Representing the jumpers, Nia Hill tallied 5.53m in the long jump.
UP NEXT
The Eagles travel to their last meet before the Outdoor Conference Championships. The team competes in the Penn Relays next weekend in Philadelphia before preparing for conference in Lafayette, Louisiana.
