STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein announced today that he has named James Riggs head rifle coach.
Riggs is an investigator with Bulloch County Sherriff's office and a 16-year veteran law enforcement officer. A school-trained sniper, he is a certified general instructor, specialized instructor in firearms and defensive tactics instructor, all certifications he has received from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center. Riggs currently teaches a civilian firearms class through the Sheriff's office and has trained over 400 people in firearms.
"I'm glad to have the opportunity to coach the women's rifle team, and we're going to work hard to continue to grow the program," said Riggs.
"Having someone with the particular skill set that Jim has will be a tremendous bonus for our rifle team," said Kleinlein. "I am excited to welcome him and his family to Eagle Nation and look forward to watching our rifle team compete for championships."
The Eagles will be starting their third season of competition this fall. The Georgia Southern Shooting Sports Education Center, which will serve as the home of the Eagle rifle program, is set to open in the near future.
