STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Football completed its 15th and final practice of the spring season on Monday with 105 minutes of work at Paulson Stadium. The Eagles, coming off Saturday's Blue-White Game, had a non-contact session, practicing in helmets and shorts to close the spring.
"The best thing that has happened for us is that we have stayed healthy," said Head Coach Willie Fritz. "The tough thing about spring football is it is still close to the start of the season. If you have a guy pick up a big injury, he might be out when the season begins. That is something you worry about as a head coach, but we've managed to stay pretty healthy and we got a lot of reps for a bunch of different guys."
The defense stole the show in Saturday's spring game which included a couple interceptions and a couple sacks for Coach Jack Curtis' corps. Offensively the Eagles were paced by Vegas Harley with 45-yards on eight carries, while adding a 28-yard completion.
Quarterbacks Kevin Ellison and Favian Upshaw and running backs Matt Breida and Alfred Ramsby did not participate in the live portion of Saturday's scrimmage following the decision of Fritz and his staff. Fritz said at the beginning of the spring that in an effort to keep them healthy, the group would not see live action during the 15 spring practice sessions.
"We worked a little bit on West Virginia today," said Fritz. "They run a little bit different of an offensive and defensive structure than what we normally see, so we got to see a little bit of that. We also worked to clean up a few things in the kicking game. We made some really good strides in the kicking game and we've got to focus on continuing to grow in that part of the game."
