NEW ORLEANS – Georgia Southern Women's Soccer forward Nora El-Shami was named Sun Belt Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday following a hat trick in the Eagles' 4-3 win over Georgia State on Sunday. The award was the second this season for El-Shami.
The Milton, Ga. native posted her second hat trick of the season on Sunday in the Eagles' 4-3 win over Georgia State. She opened the scoring for the Eagles in the third minute when she dispossessed a Panther defender in the danger area and coolly slotted the ball home for an early 1-0 lead. She struck again on 16 minutes when she got on the end of a cross from Renee Nance to make it 2-1.
In the second half El-Shami was credited with an assist when her corner kick in the 78th minute was headed across by Jennifer Wittick to make it 3-2. Nine minutes later and just eight seconds after Georgia State equalized for the third time, El-Shami scored her third goal, this time from the penalty spot to seal the 4-3 win for the Eagles.
