Georgia Southern Football Team Gives Standing Ovation to Transition 20 Donors
STATESBORO, Ga. – Less than 15 months ago, the east endzone of Paulson Stadium was a grassy hill with a functional scoreboard that sat in front of a walkway between the north and south stands. Through the course of the 2013 Georgia Southern Football season, large earth-moving machinery took up residency behind the goal posts, excavating the knoll to make way for the foundation of the new headquarters of the Georgia Southern Football program.
The $10 million, 50,000-square foot Football Operations Center (FOC) was on display Friday, August 15th, to the donors who helped make the project possible. Members of the "Transition 20" spent part of their afternoon and evening at the FOC, first witnessing Georgia Southern President Brooks Keel and First Lady Tammie Schalue flipping the switch to the new HD videoboard installed on the facility's west façade.
After watching highlights of the Eagles' win over Florida in last year's season's finale, donors were welcomed by Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein and listened to remarks from President Brooks Keel. The donors were then escorted on tours of the new building.
The Lanier Drive level includes the coaches' offices, a number of meeting rooms for staff and position groups, and a team room which features stadium seating for more than 120 individuals.
The field level amenities include the new locker room with large cherry wood veneer lockers for more than 130 players, a strength and conditioning area that spans nearly the width of the building and includes nearly $500,000 worth of equipment, and a state-of-the art sports medicine area complete with a hydrotherapy room and underwater treadmill.
Heavy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments were served in the Hall of Fame atrium which includes a greeting area for guests and exciting graphics depicting key moments in Georgia Southern Football history.
