STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern volleyball coach Dustin Wood announced today that Cathrine Murray (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Eagles, beginning in the 2014 season.
A 5-foot-11 outside hitter, Murray was a three-time first-team All-Central League selection for coach Gerry Knuppel at Clairemont High School. A team captain and three-year team MVP, she helped Clairemont to a 23-12 record as a senior, including a perfect 12-0 mark in league play. Murray was also three-time selection to the San Diego Union Tribune Academic Team and earned Central League Athlete of the Year honors.
"Cathrine brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our outside hitter position," said Wood. "She played for Coast Volleyball Club out of San Diego, and Coast has produced many great players in the past and present. Her ball control is stellar, and she is up at 10-feet and plays at that ceiling with her arm swing. We will be changing some things in her blocking technique to make her an even better blocker, and we are excited about the bright future ahead of her here at Georgia Southern. She will be an asset to our Eagle volleyball family."
Georgia Southern won the 2013 Southern Conference Tourney Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 28-6 record, which tied the most wins in school history. Georgia Southern returns seven letterwinners and six starters to the 2014 squad.
