Entries for relay team and Walker’s Long Jump due Sunday
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Georgia Southern 4X100m Relay team will use its best time of the season, its record-breaking 44.50 time as its entry to qualify for the NCAA East Region Preliminary round at the end of this month. The Eagles, Alyssa Felton, Jasmin Walker, Aarian Tipton and Jordan Fordham, ran a 45.31, their second-best time of the year at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Ashleigh Rasheed posted her third-best distance of the season with an 11.79m (38-8.25) effort this afternoon in the Triple Jump.
"It was important for us to get a competition in after not racing the relay for a few weeks," said Georgia Southern Head Coach Marlo Mincey. "We have a couple of weeks to get everything sharpened up and ready for the NCAA East Regionals."
The top 24 declared relay teams in each region will compete in their appropriate preliminary round, either east or west. Georgia Southern's 4x100m Relay team currently ranks seventh in the east region and 14th nationally. Walker's 6.14m in the Long Jump Friday night solidifies her as one of the top 48 individuals in the East Region in that event.
The NCAA Division I East Preliminary Track & Field Championship will be held at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida, a site at which the Eagles competed in March. Walker will compete in the Long Jump on the first day, Thursday, May 29th. The 4X100m Relay is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 31st.
