Men’s Golf NCAA Selection Show Set for Monday on Golf Channel

STATESBORO, Ga. – Fresh off their fourth Southern Conference Championship, the Georgia Southern men's golf team will learn the field and destination of its next tournament Monday, May 5.
The 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships selections will be announced live on the Golf Channel from 10-11 a.m. during Morning Drive, the network's daily morning news and lifestyle show.
Morning Drive will also be streamed live on Golf Channel's Web site via Golf Live Extra at golfchannel.com. It's the first time in NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships history that the teams and individuals which will participate will be announced live on national television.
Georgia Southern secured the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships by winning the league's team title April 22, and will compete at one of six regional sites around the country May 15-17. The sites are (host school): Auburn University Club -- Auburn, Ala. (Auburn); The Club at Old Hawthorne -- Columbia, Mo. (Missouri); Lonnie Poole Golf Course -- Raleigh, N.C. (NC State); Rich Harvest Farms -- Sugar Grove, Ill. (Northern Illinois); Eugene Country Club -- Eugene, Ore. (Oregon); Briggs Ranch Golf Club -- San Antonio, Texas (UTSA).
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., May 23-28. Those 30 teams and six individuals will compete in an individual stroke-play format for 54 holes (May 23-25). The top 40 individuals and ties will compete in the fourth and final stroke-play round to determine the individual national champion May 26, and on May 27 (quarterfinals and semi-finals) and May 28 (finals), the low eight teams from the 54-hole qualifying will compete in match play competition to determine the team national champion.
Monday's selection coverage will be just the start of coverage of the 2014 Division I Men's Golf Championship by Golf Channel. The network will provide highlights from regional play leading up to coverage of the 2014 championship. Golf Channel will provide live coverage of the final day of individual championship play May 26 as well as the team match play May 27-28.
This year marks the return of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships to live television after a 14-year absence. Through a multi-year partnership with the NCAA, Golf Channel will air tournament action from both the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships beginning in 2015.
Georgia Southern has finished in the top-5 in each of its last four tournaments and won team titles in two events. The Eagles will make their 22nd appearance in the NCAA Championships and the 11th under director of golf/head coach Larry Mays.
