
Men's Tennis Drops in Quarterfinals of SoCon Championships

CHATTANOOGA, TN.- Georgia Southern men's tennis was defeated by UNCG 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2014 SoCon Championships held at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Champions Club. The Eagles entered the tournament as the 6th seed with a 4-5 regular season record.
In doubles play, Kyle Hoffman and Oliver Webb were defeated in the No. 1 spot by UNCG's James Dougherty and Ahmet Sarioglu, 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, Nico DeGroof and Marco Osorio fell to Randy Phillips and Nazhone Wilkins, 8-4. Christian Kerrigan and Albert Codina Sala were up 5-3 in the third doubles position when play was concluded. Heading into singles play, the Spartans owned the 1-0 advantage.
In singles competition, Kyle Hoffman dropped 6-3, 6-1 to Randy Phillips in the third singles position. At #4 singles, Nico DeGroof was defeated by Daniel Mack 6-4, 6-1. UNCG clinched the match when Cameron Smith took down Christian Kerrigan at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 1 singles, Oliver Webb lost his first set 6-3, and was down 1-4 in the second set when the match was decided. Marco Osorio notched his first set against James Dougherty 6-1 at the No. 2 spot, then dropped 3-5 when the match was called. Albert Codina Sala overcame Gaston Murray in the first set 6-1, and tied 3-3 when the match was clinched.
The Eagles finished their 2013-14 season with an overall record of 5-18.
