Men’s Golf Earns Athletic Director’s Hard Hat Award

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein presented his Hard Hat Award to Director of Golf/Head Coach Larry Mays, Associate Head Coach Carter Collins and the men's golf program at the department's staff meeting today.
Mays and the Eagles earned the honor for winning the team title at the Schenkel Invitational, Georgia Southern's home tournament for 35 years. It was the first time in school history the Eagles captured the team championship, and junior Scott Wolfes became the first Eagle to take medalist honors since Richie Bryant in 1989.
"We use the Hard Hat to represent the fact that most accomplishments come as the result of hard work and commitment - values our department and university are built on," said Kleinlein. "Our golf team's effort to win the Schenkel golf tourney this year is an example of those values and deserves to be recognized with a Hard Hat Award."
Kleinlein initiated the Hard Hat Award in 2012 to celebrate achievements in the department that come about as a result of a commitment to excellence and a resolve to exceed expectations. The Hard Hat Award has now been given out 10 times since 2012.
Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson was in attendance at the meeting as part of his two-day campus tour. He will be on the sidelines during the Football Spring Game Saturday at noon in Paulson Stadium and throw out the first pitch at Saturday's 4:30 p.m. baseball contest at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Georgia Southern golf team returns to action at the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at the National Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C., April 20-22.
