Eagles travel to Palmetto Classic for Friday meet
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Track and Field makes the quick transition to the outdoor portion of its season with a Friday, March 7th trip to the Palmetto Classic. Twenty-two student-athletes will travel to Mt. Pleasant, S.C., just north of Charleston, for the meet, which begins with the Hammer and Discus events at 12 p.m. Racing events begin at 1 p.m. Live results will be available at timinginc.com.
Several Eagles will be running in off events not usually in their repertoire or competing for the first time collegiately in other events. The 4x100m Relay team will take its efforts from practice to its first race with the 100m and 400m Hurdles also being contested for the first time this weekend. Eight top-three individual finishes were recorded at last year's meet. Georgia Southern owns records at the Palmetto Classic in the 400m Hurdles, Long Jump and Triple Jump.
"We were focused on being at our best for indoor championships, but we were making sure we did some work every day on our outdoor events as well," said Georgia Southern Head Coach Marlo Mincey. "As far as the transition from indoor to outdoor, we want to keep improving. We have so many events to look forward to during outdoor season as the additional sprint events really play into our strengths as a team."
After this Friday's event, Georgia Southern will compete next in the FSU Relays Friday and Saturday, March 21-22. The Eagles moved the March 14-15 competition weekend to April and head to Athens, Ga., for the Spec Town Invitational April 11-12 instead.
