
Athletics Announces Inaugural Talon-Ted Award Winners

STATESBORO, Ga. - Angel Matias of the men's basketball team, Danielle Spencer of the women's basketball team, Leigha Long of the track and field team and Christian Kerrigan of the men's tennis team were selected as Georgia Southern Athletics inaugural Talon-Ted Award Winners.
Matias is a junior forward from San Juan, Puerto Rico and is majoring in general studies. Matias leads the team in rebounds with 6.9 per game and averages 7.8 points per game.
Spencer is a senior forward from Atlanta, Ga. And is majoring in civil engineering. Spencer is the top rebounder on the women's squad with 8.2 per contest.
Long is a freshman distance runner on the cross country/track and field team and Kerrigan is a freshman tennis player from London, England.
The Talon-Ted Award recognizes student-athletes, who work just as hard in the classroom as they do on the field of competition. The award recipients have shown significant improvement in the classroom through major tests, projects, papers or consistent improvement in other areas.
The award recipients are selected each month by the Student-Athlete Services staff.
