Sarah Purvis Named SoCon Pitcher of the Month

STATESBORO, GA. – The Southern Conference has named Sarah Purvis as the league's Pitcher of the Month for February. The senior earned Player of the Week twice from three weeks and went 4-2 early in the year in six starts.
She finished the opening month of the season with a 1.08 ERA and 43 strikeouts in the opening month of the season.
The right-hander opened her season against No. 1 Tennessee on Feb. 8, striking out 10 and allowing just one earned run on four hits in the 1-0 loss. She picked up her first win of the season the following day, striking out six in a win over Northern Colorado, en route to earning the first SoCon pitcher of the week award of the season.
Purvis shut out Wisconsin on Feb. 14, working around six hits and striking out eight, and picked up a 6-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast the next day. She struck out seven in a road loss to Florida International before closing the month with eight strikeouts in a five-hit shutout of Coastal Carolina. Purvis walked just 11 batters against her 43 strikeouts in the month.
Georgia Southern opens Southern Conference play on Saturday, March 15th, with a doubleheader against UNCG. The Eagles close the three-game set on Sunday afternoon.
