STATESBORO, Ga. – Cornelius Collins, from North Paulding High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll at Georgia Southern and play football for the Eagles. The 5-10, 205 lb. running back was selected to the all-5-AAAAA region team as a senior with his second-straight season with 1,000 or more yards rushing. Collins had six games with 100 or more yards on the ground in 2013 and two others with 98 and 99 yards to finish with more than 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns. The Wolfpack posted a 12-2 overall record and advanced to the state playoffs for the second-straight year.
During his second season starting for Coach Scott Jones, Collins had five multiple-touchdown games including scoring the first three TDs of the game against Hiram last September. He ran for a school-record 1,536 yards to help lead Paulding to its first-ever playoff appearance in 2012. Collins leaves his mark on North Paulding with more than 3,000 career rushing yards and 45 touchdowns, both school records. In addition to playing running back, Collins also contributed to several of the special teams units.
Collins, raised by his grandmother Shirley Banks, was a three-sport athlete at North Paulding, advancing to the state finals in weight lifting and earning all-region honors as a forward on the Wolfpack soccer team. After the completion of the Wolfpack football season in 2013, he played for Jones' Giants in the inaugural all-star Georgia Northwest Bowl. He is the grandson of Shirley Banks.
