All-American Becomes Fourth Eagle to Play in CFL
MONTREAL – Georgia Southern cornerback Laron Scott signed a three-year deal to play for the Montreal Alouettes. Scott, who was with the New York Giants organization for the majority of the 2013 season, signed on Tuesday with the Canadian Football League team. He becomes the fourth Eagle to play in the CFL.
"I can't even explain it," said Laron Scott. "I am so excited to have this opportunity and get back on the field. I'm very blessed and fortunate to continue my playing career."
Scott maintained his training regime after the season and expects to hear from his new team in the next few days about his upcoming schedule.
From Warner Robins, Ga., Scott holds the Eagle records for kickoff returns and kickoff return yards for a single game, season and in his three-year career. He owns two of the top four longest kickoff returns in Georgia Southern history with a 99-yarder against Samford and 95-yard return against Alabama, both during the 2011 season and both for touchdowns.
The two-time All-American set the standard for the most pass breakups in a single season with 18 and is tied for most interceptions with six. Scott finished his career with 12 interceptions, tied for third on Georgia Southern's all-time list.
The Alouettes, who played in the CFL East Division semifinals last year, open their 2014 campaign on the road at Calgary on June 28th.
