Volleyball Welcomes Transfer Isabella Zaliagiris

Zaliagiris is enrolled in classes and has begun practicing with the team in its spring workouts. She is a 6-foot-2 sophomore right side who played her freshman season at George Mason in 2012 and sat out the 2013 campaign. She is eligible to suit up for the Eagles in the upcoming season, their first as members of the Sun Belt Conference.
"It's nice to see Isabella back in the gym with a smile on her face," said Wood, who was an assistant coach at George Mason during Zaliagiris' freshman campaign. "We're happy to add Isabella to our program. She is shaking off some rust this spring and getting her timing back. She has the kind of size we need to take our program to the next level, and we're excited about her development over the next three years."
Zaliagiris saw action in 10 matches, including two as a starter, at George Mason in 2012. She recorded 22 kills, 18 digs, six blocks, one ace and one assist on the season. She earned All-Catawba Valley Athletic Association conference honors each of her four years at Newton-Conover High School and was named the Most Valuable Player at the state championship, where she led the Red Devils to the North Carolina 2A title in 2011.
She played four years with the Sports Academy Volleyball Club and one year with Carolina Junior Volleyball.
Georgia Southern won the 2013 Southern Conference Tourney Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 28-6 record, which tied the most wins in school history. Georgia Southern returns nine letterwinners and six starters to the 2014 squad.
