FOOTBALL ACADEMIC PROGRESS REPORT RANKS AS BEST
For the most recent reporting period released by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the 2011-12 academic year, the Georgia Southern Football program had its highest-ever single-year and multi-year Academic Progress Report (APR) scores. Released by the NCAA last week, APR scores are a means for providing intercollegiate athletics programs with a snapshot of a team's academic success and progress of individual student-athletes, accounting for eligibility, retention and graduation. The Eagle Football program earned a 972 for its single-year and a 939 for its multi-year score.
OPTION U FOOTBALL CAMPS IN ATLANTA AND MACON
Georgia Southern Football takes its Option U one-day camps on the road this weekend for rising 11th and 12th-graders Friday in Atlanta and Saturday, June 22nd, in Macon. Each camper will be instructed and coached by a position coach in specific drills in the tradition of Eagle football and receives a camp T-shirt. Check-in begins at 12 p.m. and the camp ends at 5 p.m. Registration for the one-day camp is $50. For more information, visit GeorgiaSouthernFootballCamps.com.
The Atlanta-area camp will be held at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School (805 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NW) and the Macon-area camp at First Presbyterian Day School (5671 Calvin Drive). FRYE NAMED SPORTING NEWS PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
Junior offensive tackle Garrett Frye was named to the Sporting News' preseason All-America team by the magazine. Frye earned honors as a third-team All-American from the Associated Press and The Sports Network in 2012. The SoCon Academic All-Conference selection started and played in all 14 games last season and helped Georgia Southern capture the NCAA Division I rushing title with 399.4 yards per game.
CONSTRUCTION WEBCAMS NOW LIVE
Webcams aimed at the construction sites for the Paulson Stadium expansion and Football Operations Center are now live on the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation website RingsandDiplomas.com. One camera is aimed north stands where wall demolition and grading has begun for construction of the lower-level seating. The other is trained on the east endzone where site preparation continues.
Both projects are scheduled for completion in 2014. The $10 million student-funded expansion will provide more than 6,000 additional seats with 1,500 on-grade and 4,500 with the construction of the upper deck. The 50,000-square foot Football Operations Center, a $10 million privately funded project, will house locker rooms, coaches' offices, team meeting rooms, strength and conditioning space, a rehabilitation center, equipment room, video production space, and football Hall of Fame.
