STATESBORO, Ga. - The executive committee of the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation voted Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, to modify its donor benefit structure to help ensure a successful transition into the Sun Belt Conference next year. The goal of the restructuring is to more closely-align its benefits with the Athletics Department goal of creating more experienced-based opportunities for fans and raising additional resources to be used for anticipated increased scholarship, recruiting and travel expenses.
"As we move into the Sun Belt Conference, we will be presented with two distinct pathways we can follow. We can be leaders or mere participants," said Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein. "To be leaders, we must drive additional revenue and invest in the priority needs of the program. The new benefits structure provides us an opportunity to do this with as little disruption of the fan experience as possible."
The changes to the benefits structure include parking, new priority seating options, pre-game hospitality and additional benefits at certain levels. The following are specific changes taking effect Jan. 1, 2014:
• Season ticket and the parking fee will not increase for 2014.
• A minimum donation of $600 will be required to qualify for parking at Paulson Stadium.*
• The Recreation Activities Center (RAC) parking lot will become a donor lot with a minimum donation requirement of $300 or $120, depending on the location within the lot.
• Qualified donors will be allowed to keep their existing parking spots.
• A minimum donation of $1,200 is required to qualify to purchase a large RV parking spot. The parking fee of $500 remains the same.
• A new premium RV lot will be created next to the stadium with additional benefits offered ($1,200 minimum donation / $2,500 parking fee).
• All "Club" seating (Eagle, Stadium and Bishop) will require a minimum donation of $1,200 and allows the purchase of up to four season tickets.
• A new "Club" experience will be created under the new mid-deck on the visitors' side and will require a donation of $1,200 or $600, depending on the location of the seats.
• A minimum donation of $1,200 is required to enjoy the Bishop pre-game hospitality event.**
• A minimum of $300 donation is required to purchase football season tickets in Sections B & F (with backs).
• A minimum of $120 donation is required to purchase football season tickets in Sections B & F (without backs).
• The donation requirement for VIP Suites will increase based on the location and type of suite purchased.
• Bald Eagle donors at the $600 and above level will be allowed access to football pre-game side line passes, admission to the 6th Man Club at Basketball and on-field batting practice for baseball.
*Long-term donors at the Eagle Giving level ($300-$599) with priority points totaling more than 80 points will be grandfathered in and allowed to remain at their current giving level for parking.
**Long-term donors at the Bald Eagle Giving level ($600-$1,199) with priority points totaling more than 80 Points will be grandfathered in and allowed to remain at their current giving level for Bishop pre-game hospitality access.
In adopting the new benefits structure, the executive committee took into consideration its many long-term donors and wanted to ensure that there was a price point by which everyone could continue to enjoy watching Eagle Athletics.
"We worked hard to make sure we did not eliminate any benefits. The location of a particular benefit may have changed, but the benefit remains intact," Athletics Foundation President John Mulherin said.
All impacted donors will receive a letter, explaining the new benefit structure and providing options for renewing their donation through a payment plan or multiple-payment option, in early January. As a result, the Athletic Foundation renewal campaign for the 2014-15 season will start early this year to accommodate the various payment options. The renewal campaign will run from January, 2014 - May 16, 2014.
