GREENVILLE, N.C.- Georgia Southern women's soccer traveled to Furman University on Friday to take on the Paladins. Furman notched 2 goals, defeating the Eagles 2-0. Furman is leading the conference with a 6-1-1 record, and Georgia Southern is currently 3-4-1.

The Paladins came out kicking outshooting the Eagles 14-6 in the first half, yet no goals were scored until the 44th minute. FU's Carlie Couch put one between the pipes on a header, past GSU's goalkeeper Molly Williams.

Coming into the second half FU leads GSU 1-0. The Eagles held back the Paladin offense until late in the second half, when Stephanie DeVita was able to head the ball into GSU's net at the back post off of a corner kick. The Paladins kept control of the scoreboard the rest of regulation.

"We lost to a very good Furman team, they've got a lot of talent up front," said head coach Brian Dunleavy. We did well defending in transition and during the run of play, but we gave up two goals off of corners, which is disappointing. Overall we played well, we just lacked conviction defending set pieces, and it cost us the game."

The Eagles take the field again on Sunday at 2pm versus Wofford.
