STATESBORO, Ga. – "By the Numbers" spotlights each week some of the interesting statistics, rankings and milestones as they relate to the Georgia Southern Football program.

Georgia Southern still owns the highest rushing average in NCAA Division I at 369.7 yards per game, ahead of FBS programs Army (340.1) and Oregon (332.4) and FCS programs Cal Poly (287.3) and Sam Houston State (285.4).

Eagles Kevin Ellison and Jerick McKinnon rank sixth and seventh in the Southern Conference individual rankings for total offense with 155.3 and 152.3 yards per game. McKinnon leads the league in rushing (132.3 yards per game) while Ellison is sixth in passing yards per game and tied for 10th in rushing (61.7).

Georgia Southern held The Citadel to a third-down conversion success rate of only 10 percent last week as the Bulldogs were 0-7 through the 2:41 mark of the third quarter and finished 1-10 for the game. The Eagles lead the SoCon in third-down conversion defense at 34.1 percent.

With his 198 rushing yards against The Citadel, Jerick McKinnon added his name to Georgia Southern's list of 100-yard rushing games for the 16th time. The Walter Payton Award candidate, with his fifth game with 100 or more yards rushing in 2013, tied his mark of 198 yards, achieved in 2012 against Howard, for 31st on the Eagles' single-game list.

Senior cornerback Lavelle Westbrooks, with 18 career pass breakups, is now tied for eighth on the Eagles' career list with James Young (2001-04), Aaron Whitaker (2001-03) and Taz Dixon (1986-89).

Of all Georgia Southern's opponents, the Eagles and Mountaineers have the most meetings – 28 previous – with 24 in the modern era. ASU holds a 15-12-1 overall series advantage and a 12-10 mark in games played after the two teams started playing again in 1987 and every season since 1993.

Kevin Ellison had a career-best 135 yards rushing against The Citadel, which a jaunt of 53-yards, tying his previous career-long rush. His 273 yards of total offense against the Bulldogs (135 rush, 138 pass) also rank as a career best for the redshirt freshman quarterback.
