Eagles Compete at Jimmy Carnes Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Georgia Southern Track and Field team finished up competition at the Jimmy Carnes Invite on Sunday Jan. 27. The Eagles placed eighth in a tough field of 12 teams.
The Eagles top performers of the weekend were freshman Keyanna Harris, sophomore Jasmine Walker and junior Cherrelle King. The athletes finished third and fourth in their respective events.
Harris was the first Eagle of the day to place in the top three when she jumped for 1.56m, two centimeters short of her personal best, in the High Jump finishing third overall. Sophomore Jasmine Walker added a third place finish of her own, leaping 5.67m in the Long Jump. Junior Cherelle King rounded out the top performances with fourth place finish in the 400m Dash, crossing the line in 58.55.
Sophomore Kimberly Thomas added another strong 400m Dash performance to her resume when she finished in 58.95 for a sixth place in a race of 19 athletes.
Just like last week, Jasmine Billlings qualified for the 55m Hurdles finals. The senior placed sixth in the finals, ahead of 14 other hurdlers, in 8.36.
Freshman Kelsey Chandler set two personal bests in the Weight Throw (13.77m) and Shot Put (11.45m), good for an 11th and 10th place finish.
Dana Edwards competed in her career-first pentathlon on Saturday, placing eighth with 2762 points. Ashleigh Rasheed earned her first collegiate first place finish when she won the Shot Put round in the Pentathlon with a throw of 10.05m, finishing 10th overall.
The Eagles will be back on the track next Friday and Saturday at two day Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C.
