STATESBORO, Ga. -- Representing Georgia Southern University President Brooks Keel, First Lady Dr. Tammie Schalue, Provost Jean Bartels, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Teresa Thompson, Faculty Athletics Representative Chris Geyerman, and Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein congratulated Eagle student-athletes who recorded GPAs of 3.0 and above for the Fall 2012 semester during halftime of Monday night’s Men’s Basketball victory.
The overall GPA for Georgia Southern Athletics for the most recently completed semester was 2.92, the highest recorded Fall term in the Department’s history. With 206 Georgia Southern student-athletes, representing all 15 programs, earning GPAs of 3.0 or above, more than half the total number of individuals participating in NCAA intercollegiate athletics at Georgia Southern were honored. Thirty-five Eagles were named to the President’s List for perfect 4.0 GPAs with 79 achieving Dean’s List honors for GPAs of 3.5 or above.
Eagle senior Volleyball outside hitter Moriah Bellissimo earned national first-team Capital One Academic All-America honors for a combination of her cumulative 4.0 GPA in exercise science and athletic performance during the 2012 season. A second-team All-Southern Conference selection, Bellissimo lettered all four years of her career and helped lead the Eagles to a South Division regular-season SoCon title in 2012 and SoCon championship in 2010.
Twenty-five Georgia Southern student-athletes were recently named to the Southern Conference’s Fall Academic All-Conference team, featuring seven individuals each from the Eagle Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams and six from the Volleyball squad.
