Van Dyke Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern senior setter Kate Van Dyke has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced today.
Van Dyke averaged 11.86 assists per set in a pair of SoCon wins for the Eagles last week. She also registered 16 digs, four kills and three blocks. Van Dyke amassed 46 assists and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Wofford, then followed that with a 37-assist, six-dig performance in a 3-0 win over Furman.
Van Dyke, who holds a 3.75 grade point average in psychology, has been named one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award.
Georgia Southern, which has opened SoCon play 2-0 for the third time in the 5-year tenure of head coach Chad Callihan, hosts a pair of league matches this weekend. The Eagles take on The Citadel Friday at 6 p.m. and College of Charleston Sunday at 1 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 12-and-under.
