Volleyball Plays Three Matches in Auburn Invitational This Weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. – Fresh off a 2-1 start at the Benson Hospitality Bulldog Invitational at the University of Georgia on the season's opening weekend, the Georgia Southern volleyball team heads to the Auburn Invitational this weekend.
The Eagles will take on Auburn (3-0) at 1 p.m. Eastern Friday in their opening match of the tourney and meet Jacksonville State (4-0) at 6 p.m. that night. Georgia Southern caps play in the tournament by taking on High Point (3-1) at noon on Saturday.
The Eagles have been an efficient team on offense thus far, hitting .247 as a team and averaging 14.3 kills per set. Seniors Meredith Paskert and Moriah Bellissimo lead a balanced offense with 34 kills each, and sophomore Jamie DeRatt has 32.
Junior Enjoli Johnson leads the squad in hitting percentage, cashing in on 33.9 percent of her attack attempts. Senior Kate Van Dyke has already tallied 135 assists this season, leaving her just 46 shy of the school career record.
Georgia Southern has also been productive defensively, averaging 17.7 digs and 2.1 blocks a set. Freshman Alexandra Beecher leads the team with 45 digs, while Van Dyke has 39 and Bellissimo has 38. Sophomore Kym Coley (right) leads the team with 13 blocks, while Johnson has 11 and Bellissimo has 10.
Following the weekend, the Eagles return to action Tuesday, Sept. 4, in their first home match of the season. Georgia Southern hosts Mercer at 6 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse.
