ATHENS, Ga. - Nicole Jeschelnik (right) tallied 12 kills, but Slovenia hit .284 as a team and topped Georgia Southern 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-17) in a volleyball exhibition match at the Benson Hospitality Bulldog Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Ramsey Center.
Jamie DeRatt posted six kills, nine digs and two blocks for the Eagles, while Kym Coley hit .556, notching six kills in nine attempts, and added two blocks. Katalin Minnerly, making her first career start, recorded 23 assists, and fellow freshman Alexandra Beecher had 10 digs.
Tjasa Turnsek had 13 kills to lead Slovenia, while Monika Potokar and Marina Cvetanovic each recorded 10 kills.
"It was a great opportunity for our newest Eagles to get their feet wet in a match environment and for our entire team to experience a European style of game," said Eagle coach Chad Callihan. "Hats off to Slovenia, who played a great match. We learned a ton and look forward to strengthening the deficiencies we found during the match."
Georgia Southern will finish off the weekend by taking on Troy at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Ramsey Center.
