Eagles Participate in Relay for Life

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern student-athletes participated in the annual Bulloch County Relay for Life festivities held on Friday evening at Kiwanis Fairgrounds. Representatives from each of the 15 varsity sport teams were present at the event.
Relay for Life is a national event administered by the American Cancer Society to raise funds and awareness for fighting cancer. Founded in 1986, Relay for Life consists of teams of people camping around a track. Members of the teams take turns walking around the track until the overnight event is completed. Money is donated for their walking efforts. More than 3.5 million people in over 5000 communities in the United States as well as 20 other countries participate in the event each year. The event hosted by Bulloch County on Friday saw 1,234 participants and 102 teams raise a total of $100,472.
Relay for Life is one of many events in which Georgia Southern student-athletes give back to their community. Georgia Southern prides itself in having student-athletes who enjoy supporting the surrounding community that is so supportive of them.
