Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Track and Field Team is heading back to Jacksonville, Florida to run in the North Florida Invitational Friday and Saturday (March 29-30). The Eagles ran in the UNF Spring Break Invitational earlier this month, which was also in Jacksonville. North Florida is site of this year's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Regional.
The Eagles are coming off of a great performance at the FSU Relays, which saw Georgia Southern post 14 top-ten finishes and five top-five finishes. Junior Jasmine Billings (Lawrenceville, Ga.) set a personal record in the 100 Meter Hurdles (13.83) on her way to a first place finish. Billings' performance led to her being named the SoCon Track Athlete of the Week. Joining Billings were three other Eagles setting personal records. Freshman Taylor Wade (Loganville, Ga.) also in the 100 Meter Hurdles (14.84), freshman Alexis Jacobs (Columbia, S.C.) in the Hammer Throw (38.58), and senior Azura Robillard (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) in the Javelin Throw (36.66) all set new personal bests.
Georgia Southern is ranked fourth in the SoCon Outdoor Track & Field Mid-Season Power Rankings. The Eagles trail first place Appalachian State, second place Samford and third place Western Carolina. With only one meet remaining after the North Florida Invitational, The Eagles will look to catch the top-three as they go into the SoCon Championships April 21-22 in Cullowhee, N.C.
