Track & Field Prepares to compete in SoCon Indoor Championship

Statesboro, Ga. - Georgia Southern Track and Field heads back to the Birmingham CrossPlex Thursday and Friday February 23-24, for the Southern Conference (SoCon) Indoor Championship. The championship will be held Thursday and Friday The meet will not be held at Clemson for the first time in six years. Instead, the Championship will be decided at the Birmingham CrossPlex for the first time. This will mark the third time this season GSU will compete in Birmingham.
The Eagles will try to top a third place finish in last season's championship. Seniors Azura Robillard (Altamonte Springs, Fla.), Millicent Brooks-Millender (Douglasville, Ga.), Charnelle Wray (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Raquel Daly (Decatur, Ga.) will look to close out their Indoor careers at GSU with a great showing in Birmingham.
Jasmine Billings (Lawrenceville, Ga.) has the fastest time in the conference in the 60 Meter Hurdles this season (8.54) with Stephanie Hicks (Trenton, N.J.) right behind her with the second best time (8.71). Ebony Carter (Rome, Ga.) and Jasmine Walker (Fairburn, Ga.) have the second and third fastest times in the conference, respectively.
Freshmen standouts Taylor Wade (Loganville, Ga.) and Sara Hall (Columbia, Mo.) will look to continue their success as well in the Championships. Wade has clocked the sixth best time in the 60 Meter Hurdles, while Hall has the second best Shot Put in the SoCon this season, throwing 43' 11.25".
Impressive numbers for the Eagles bring great expectations going into this week. "I expect us to go out and perform well this weekend," said Head Coach Marlo Mincey. "We are gaining confidence and I think we're going to show it out there. I'm looking for all of our women to be competing on the second day in the finals."
Georgia Southern ranked fifth, in the most recent power rankings. The Eagles ranked behind leader Appalachian State, Samford, Western Carolina and Elon.
Events will begin Thursday at 10 a.m.
