Defending SoCon Champions Announce 2013 Softball Schedule

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Softball Head Coach Annie Smith has announced its 2013 schedule. The Eagles open defense of their 2012 Southern Conference Championship on February 8th and begin league play on March 9th at Elon.
"We are looking forward to the 2013 spring season,” said Head Coach Annie Smith. “We have a challenging schedule, and I can't wait for our team to get back to start practice in January."
GSU opens the season five early season tournaments including a pair of weekends at home. The Eagle Round Robin opens the season on the weekend of February 8th through 10th. Over the next two weekends, GSU visits tournaments at Florida Gulf Coast and in Orlando, Fla.
The month of March opens with the 2013 Eagle Classic in Statesboro with games against Alabama State, Florida International, Kennesaw State and South Carolina. The Eagles have a home doubleheader on March 6th before opening SoCon play against Elon on March 9th and 10th.
Spring Break begins with a trip to the FSU Tournament in Tallahassee on March 16-17, followed by a doubleheader against LSU in Baton Rouge on March 19. GSU visits College of Charleston (March 23-24) and Georgia (March 27) before the season’s first home conference series against Furman on March 29-30.
A doubleheader against Mercer at home on April 3rd precedes a trip to Chattanooga for a pivotal weekend series on April 6-7 that matches the league’s last six regular season champions. On April 10th Southern faces Georgia State in the final non-conference games of the regular season.
Four-straight league series close the regular season with a home set against Samford (April 13-14), a trip to Western Carolina (April 20-21), followed by two-straight home series against UNCG (April 27-28) and Appalachian State (May 4-5).
The 2013 Southern Conference Softball Tournament starts on May 8 in Greensboro, N.C. as the Eagles seek their second-straight SoCon Championship.
